Good news! Dare I say it... Athena is on the mend! I'm not sure what infection she had, and I guess we will never know - but she seems to have fought it off. See for yourself how far she has come over the last 7 days.
Kestrel Athena was taken ill on 1st May 2024
She had a serious infection. Symptoms included struggling to breathe, lethargic, puffed up feathers and mucus. I really didn't think she was going to make it and the local vet would not treat her unless they were able to examine her. Putting a bird this ill under the stress of capture and examination would have been a risk on top of the risk to the clutch. So I decided to leave it a few more days and see what would happen. On 6th May she seemed to be miraculously better! She's a real warrior and has managed to pull through and keep those precious eggs warm too!
