Sit back and enjoy the magic that is wild Alaska. See grizzly bears catching salmon, watch bear cubs pad obediently behind their mothers, and even glimpse humpback whales breaching and bald eagles soaring in this short film about the wildlife of Alaska.
Katmai national park
This summer I visited Katmai National Park in Alaska to watch the salmon run. This is when huge numbers of grizzly bears concentrate along the rivers to feast on migrating salmon.Grizzly bears are enormous, powerful animals. But the waters are saturated with red salmon and it takes little effort, although considerable skill, to catch these fish as they jump over falls in huge, red shoals. Watch how the bears seemingly just stand in the water and snatch the salmon with their powerful jaws. Although of course it is much harder than it looks!
Bear fights
With so many bears concentrated in one area, fights break out and there are tussles for supremacy. Watch as one, dominant male, faces a challenge. But despite their power and might, it's hard not to fall for their cuddly side. See the cubs, their fur damp from the river, obediently pad after the mother bears.
