Gylfie the barn owl and her partner Dryer recently raised a late second brood and Gylfie has been enjoying time in her favourite nest box, known as Elm Stump.
But this week a grey squirrel decided the space would be perfect for a winter bed and approached with a mouthful of leaves to build a drey. On spotting the barn owl perched in the entrance this bold squirrel briefly retreats, then returns and lunges at the unsuspecting owl.
Both animals drop into the nest and a brief battle ensues. Then Gylfie regains her balance and flies out of the nest, with the squirrel also fleeing the scene!
