Polar bear cubs, a walrus colony and an adorable Arctic fox family, this is the wonder of the Arctic. One of the most dramatic encounters was a female polar bear with her two cubs feeding on an ice covered beach.
But equally impressive was the sight of walrus, the hefty males squaring up to one another, their long tusks glinting menacingly in the arctic sun.
Bird life
From barnacle geese and their chicks resting on the tundra where reindeer also grazed, to Arctic terns hunting against a dramatic iceberg backdrop, the birdlife in the Arctic is a thrill to see. The haunting sound of kittiwake calls echo through the skies as long-tailed skuas, red-throated divers and Brünnich's guillemots dive.
And in the water, fin whales blow spurts into the air. But among my favourite sightings was an Arctic fox and his cubs, speckled grey white in their summer coats.
