This kingfisher pair are in the early throws of courtship and the male has caught a fish for his mate. Watch her give a little quiver of excitement.

Kingfisher courtship

Kingfishers are normally solitary birds and so when they come together to mate their early relations can be a little strained. But this pair are at a point in their relationship where they have become used to one another and when the male dives to catch a fish for his mate her response is sweet. Watch her quiver with excitement before flying over to receive the love token. After she has swallowed it, the male stands erect, pointing his beak skyward - a victory pose that is very similar to his aggressive stance and a reminder of how tenuous these birds courtship can be.
