The European hare is an iconic species up here in the Yorkshire Wolds. These animals are normally solitary and so if you spot more than one together there's a chance they are courting.
Hares racing
The females will encourage males to chase her, often choosing her mate from the winners of the race. One of the best times to spot this behaviour is when it is snowing, when these animals are visible against a white backdrop.
