Weasel kits on film

Weasel kits on film

The weasel I have been watching in the garden has had seven kits and this week she moved them into  my purpose built nesting chamber which means I can now watch the weasel family on CCTV.

Watch this fascinating footage as she carries each weasel into the nest one by one. There are seven kits in total, under a week old.

The last thing she drags in is a dead mouse. It is amazing to see the blind kits trying to eat the mouse at such a young age.

That is very fascinating footage to watch. i wonder where she actually gave birth to the kits and why she moved them after birth?
What a great opportunity you have for observing intimate weasel behavior. In comparison I just read a blog about an expert who set up camera traps in what he thought would be ideal habitat for weasels, (a scree slope in the Sierra Mountains in California). After six months he had no weasel footage at all to show for it. I am lucky to get a glimpse of a weasel about once every five years or so in Alaska.
