Robert E Fuller

All about the artist and filmmaker

Robert E Fuller is best known for lifelike paintings and films that reveal the individual characters of animals. Also a presenter and filmmaker, his wildlife documentaries regularly feature on TV.

Art

Robert E Fuller works in both oils and acrylics, applying fine brushstrokes to record each feather, hair and glint of eye. Also a talented sculptor, his bronze animal sculptures are breathtaking.

Although Robert's scope is global, he is best known for his renditions of British wildlife, many of them observed close to his home in Yorkshire, UK.

Exhibitions

Robert E Fuller has shown his work in London, Paris and even China, but he mainly exhibits from his own gallery.

This beautifully restored farm building is located near the Yorkshire Wolds village of Thixendale and is just a few miles from Robert’s childhood home.

Film

Robert E Fuller co-produces and presents films for BBC1’s The One Show as well as wildlife documentaries for TV companies around the world. Among notable film contributions was a groundbreaking documentary on weasels shown on BBC Natural World 'Weasels: Feisty and Fearless' and PBS 'The Mighty Weasel.'

Robert travels the world to film wildlife but is best known for his deep understanding of British wildlife.

Nest cameras

Robert E Fuller uses surveillance cameras to study wildlife in an unobtrusive way. A complex network in and around his British home allow him to follow the secret lives of animals.

He shares livestreams from these cameras on his website and his YouTube channel and the owls and kestrels featured are now internet stars in their own right.

Articles & photography

A prolific author, Robert E Fuller’s articles regularly feature in nature magazines and newspapers, including BBC Wildlife magazine and his local newspaper, the Yorkshire Post.

In addition, Robert is an accomplished photographer and has twice won recognition in the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

He also shares his wildlife adventures, photographs and discoveries on his blog.

Conservation

Robert's deep love of wildlife also extends to animal rescue, conservation and the restoration of habitats.

His pioneering use of wild owls to adopt orphaned or abandoned chicks is ground breaking. He also works hard to restore wildlife habitats, digging ponds, and increasing biodiversity where he can.

Travel

Robert E Fuller travels the world to watch wildlife for his paintings and films. His travel documentaries follow the individual stories of animals from as far afield as the Arctic to the Brazilian Pantanal.

Visually sumptuous, his travel films speak to the hearts of wildlife lovers around the world and he has teamed up with wildlife travel specialists Wildfoot Travel to offer bespoke wildlife tours for anyone wishing to follow in his footsteps.

Early life

Robert’s life-long passion for the natural world was shaped by his upbringing on a farm on the Yorkshire Wolds. Severely dyslexic, he struggled at school, finding solace in painting and recording the animals he spotted in the countryside surrounding the farm.

Robert left school at 15 years old and on the merit of his portfolio gained a place at York Technical College. From there he went on to study wildlife illustration at Carmarthen where he won the sought after Student of the Year award.
