Just when it seemed like Orion the barn owl was never going to settle down, he finds a new mate and is already celebrating his first barn owl egg!

Ever since his first partner, Star, disappeared in 2022, Orion the barn owl has been alone. Despite occasionally attracting a mate to his favourite roost at Three Trees in Ash Wood, this barn owl seemed like he would never pair up. Not only did he seem to chase away prospective partners, but his nest box, which was piled high with messy pellets, even looked like a bachelor pad. But then last month a new female owl appeared on the scene and Orion was besotted. Watch him dote over her. Poppy I've named Orion's new mate Poppy, after the speckles on her breast feathers which look like sprinkled poppy seeds.
