Luna the tawny owl lays her third and final egg and the pair settle down for the long days of incubation.
Egg incubation
Tawny owls incubate their eggs for around 30 days. During this time Luna does much of the work, using the heat of her body to keep her eggs warm as they develop, and only occasionally taking breaks. Meanwhile the male Bomber's role is to deliver food. Watch as shortly after Luna lays her third and final egg, he brings her a hearty snack.
Luna & Bomber
This pair first nested at Fotherdale Farm in 2020, although it was at a nest without a camera installed. Since then they have nested in Beech Stump each year, although for two of the total six years Luna's eggs failed to hatch. The owl pair however, are very good at fostering rescue chicks and since 2021 have raised a total of 14 foster chicks here.
